There are some definite advantages carbon fiber road bikes.
To start off with let us get some back ground on carbon fiber and proceed from there.
Carbon fiber bikes are made by taking interwoven sheets of carbon fibers and basically “gluing” them together with epoxy.
These sheets are “glued” in particular patterns.
The reason these sheets are positioned and “glued” in alternating patterns is to ensure strength.
Some predominate advantages of carbon fiber are light weight, corrosion-resistant, flexibility, and custom ability.
This is the reason that many time trial bikes are made from carbon fiber. The frames can be shaped in a more aerodynamic fashion.
There are a number of manufactures that make carbon frames. There is at least one manufacture that adds boron to their carbon fiber frames.
The reason for this procedure is to strengthen areas that are more prone to stresses.
This strengthening increases longevity and stiffness of the frame.
There are mixed reviews about carbon fiber bikes. Some people swear by them and think they are great. Others think the ride is stiffer than what is found on other bikes.
The reason for these differences is two fold. The first is the preference of the individual.
The second comes from how the carbon fiber sheets are configured in the construction process. This will affect the performance of the bike during ridding conditions.
So when the time comes that you are shopping for a carbon fiber bike keep the following in mind.

If you ever crash on a carbon fiber bike be sure to get it inspected for possible fractures. Of course if there is noticeable damage you do not need to get it inspected.
There is at least one company that I know of that has a crash warranty on their carbon fiber bikes. This company is Trek.
The advantages of carbon fiber road bikes are many. Ultimately you will be the judge of what you like the most.
