What are Baggy Cycling Shorts?

Baggy cycling shorts provide the comfort of a cycling short with the styling of a casual short.

In the not too distant past cyclists had few choices concerning shorts.

The options are getting better and they are also getting more versatile.

With the introduction of baggy bike shorts, you have more options.

You can ride to a gathering, store or some other location. Once you get there you can feel at ease about your clothing.

Another name for these shorts is double shorts because of the padded bike shorts or briefs inside.

What To Look For...

The items to consider before purchasing:
  • quality of the liner
  • quality of the pad/chamois
  • waistband
  • adjust-ability
  • seams
The liner quality can vary from padded briefs to full 8 panel cycling shorts.

You can also find a manufacture which has a removable liner. This allows versatility between on and off the bike use.

Your pad/chamois quality will determine how well they provide support and wick away moisture.

If you do not feel comfortable they are probably not right for you.

The majority of baggy shorts have a belt or drawstring to help prevent slipping down. You can find shorts with Lycra or a similar material which help hold the shorts up.

Adjust-ability has to do with the adjustment of the legs on the shorts.

The more sofisticated shorts have a way to adjust the legs to prevent catching air and other things while riding.

You should examine the seams to make sure they will handle the stress of use. Do the seams look reinforced or simple?

If you are not comfortable with the construction, do not buy them.
