Cycling Warning Devices

Cycling warning devices help you see others and others to see you!

Safety Should Be...

Your number one priority! Other drivers on the road are not on the look out for us.

As a cyclist it is in your best interest to let others know you are there.

You can also be proactive and have a device which warns you of other traffic.

You have some options to choose from depending on when you ride the most.

Your Options Are...

Varied by your normal riding conditions.
If you are mostly a daytime rider than just a mirror would be a big help.

If you ride in both day and night conditions than a mirror and a set of lights would be best.
Cycling Warning Devices
When it comes to mirrors you have a couple of type choices.
  • Helmet/Sunglasses Mounted
  • Handle bar Mounted
Helmet/sunglasses mounted mirrors take an adjustment period to get use to. The adjustment period is usually a couple of rides.

The handle bar mounted mirror is easy and convenient. There is not much of an adjustment period. They have a tendency to lose their settings due to the vibration.

With your lights you have choices too.
Rechargeable batteries in this case does not refer to rechargeable AA's.

It means there is a battery pack attached to power the light. The battery pack is the rechargeable part.

Due to the battery pack component these lights put out much more light.

These lights are best for before dawn and after dusk conditions.

Their cost is also considerably higher.

You will consider them a bargain if you actually ride in such conditions.

Non-rechargeable battery powered lights are much cheaper. They work really well around dawn and dusk.

They don't put out enough light for much darker conditions.

Bringing It Home

Cycling is very enjoyable!

It also can be hazardous if you don't take the proper precautions.

Take the time now to make sure you have the proper safety cycling equipment for your riding conditions.

Let us all be safe on those roads! It all starts with you!
