The only cycling womens shorts that are long, that I know of, are called knickers. These shorts are made by a variety of manufactures.
I am going to focus particularly on the Pearl Izumi Sugar Knicker and the chamois that are made for them.
Let us first start off with what the company is all about and we will go from there.
Pearl Izumi started in 1958 by a man living in Tokyo. This man wanted to make some racing clothes for his son. Thus the company of Pearl Izumi was born.
Since that time the company has grown greatly. They now provide apparel for approximately 5 different sports.
Pearl Izumi has five different chamois’s that they use in women’s apparel products. Their different kinds of chamois are as follows:
3D Elite 3D Pro 3D Race 3D Tour PRT SMT
Let us start off with the SMT chamois. The SMT stands for Seamless Molded Technology. This particular chamois is made for the women rider.
This chamois offers a generous amount of padding and comfort from friction. The friction protection comes from the seamless molding.
Next is the PRT chamois. PRT stands for ,Pressure Relief Technology. This design is for extended periods in the saddle.
To accomplish this feat the chamois has greater pad density to relieve pressure points. It also features “wings” that provide padding for the thighs.
The 3D Tour, Race and Elite are very similar in construction. They are all designed for long and short rides. They all have 12 mm PRT cushioning systems.
The Elite and Tour have a Microfiber top fabric chamois. The Race has a moisture transferring top layer to help eliminate chaffing. Other than those two features they all are constructed the same
The 3D Pro chamois has the Microfiber top fabric as the Elite and Tour. It also has a 4-way super stretch padding. The other difference is that it has a 10 mm dual-density PRT pad. The Pro is the flagship of chamois for Pearl Izumi.
The Women’s Sugar Knicker comes with a 3D Tour chamois so it is for long or short rides. The knicker also comes down to about the same length as a Capri pant would.
