There are two
main categories of road bike wheels:
The multipurpose wheels, are just that....multi-purpose! They are a
good all around wheel. They will serve you well for years to come!

They probably will not be the lightest wheels ever, yet they will serve
you well in a variety of conditions.
The majority of people, myself included,
only use multi-purpose wheels.
You can get multipurpose wheels which are more aerodynamic than others,
if this is important to you.
Aerodynamic wheels are made for the purpose of cutting down wind
resistance.
For the
average Joe, like you and me, this means expensive and
unnecessary.
While aerodynamic wheels have there place, the people who get them are
serious stage racers or those who have the money to pay for them.
Who Makes Wheels?
The categories
of wheel makers will be as follows:
Those who make both aerodynamic and multipurpose wheels and those who
only make aerodynamic wheels.
Aerodynamic
and Multipurpose
- Mavic
- Bontrager
- Shimano
- Fulcrum
Hold on there are more!
- Ritchey
- Campagnolo
- Easton
- Enve (one type
for multipurpose)
Aerodynamic
Only
- Zipp
- Hed
- Aerospoke
- Reynolds
There are probably other less known names who make road bike wheels,
who are not mentioned.
The majority of wheels will come from one of the above makers.
Top 5 Things To

multipurpose
- Do you want a lighter set of wheels or just
different?
- How much do you want to spend? Lighter wheels
